Apna Dal was founded in 1995 by breakaway members of
Bahujan Samaj Party and is active mainly in the state of Uttar Pradesh [1,
2]. Its flag is an orange-blue horizontal bicolor [1, 3, 4, 5, 6]. On many
photos, blue looks more like purple [7, 8, 9], which does not conform the
official description [1]; the reasons for this are not clear, but might be
related to the picture taking conditions, or the blue dye changing due to
exposure to different weather or being applied to the fabric over the orange
dye. The flags may also be charged with additional inscriptions in white, or by
printed reproductions of party leaders' photos [5, 6, 7, 8, 9]. As in the flag
of Bahujan Samaj Party blue stands for the low castes
and Dalits ("untouchables") and is combined with orange, which symbolizes
Hinduism to denote the party as intended to support
all castes [2].
